Margate, Florida — A South Florida family is mourning an unimaginable double l0ss after Kenya Glasgow, 31, and her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedi Glasgow, l0st their l1ves after being struck by lightning Sunday afternoon in Margate.
The incident happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. on August 23, 2026, in the 7900 block of Northwest First Street. According to the Margate Police Department, officers and Margate Fire Rescue responded after receiving a 911 call reporting that two people had been struck by lightning and were lying on a sidewalk.
Kenya’s husband, Kameron “Kam” Glasgow, said the family of four had just arrived at his aunt’s home for a family dinner. With the rain becoming heavier, Kameron and Kenya were attempting to get their twin daughters, Kennedi and Kensli, inside before the approaching storm intensified.
Seconds later, lightning struck.
Kameron said he witnessed the entire incident and also felt the electrical current traveling through the ground. He survived, as did Kensli Glasgow, Kennedi’s twin sister.
Police and firefighters immediately began emergency treatment, including CPR. Kenya and Kennedi were transported to separate medical facilities, but despite the efforts of first responders and hospital personnel, both were later pronounced d3c34s3d.
Kenya Glasgow was transported to North Broward Medical Center, while Kennedi was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Neighbor Prince Moody recalled hearing an exceptionally powerful lightning strike and seeing an orange flash through his window. The sound was strong enough to draw the attention of residents in the neighborhood.
For Kameron, the incident ended a relationship that had lasted approximately 15 years. He and Kenya met as teenagers and had been married for four years. He remembered his wife as his best friend and a woman with an enormous heart who consistently put other people before herself.
Kameron also remembered Kennedi as an energetic little girl who loved music. He said she especially enjoyed singing Benson Boone’s songs and described her as an “Energizer Bunny.”
The surviving twin, Kensli, is now at the center of Kameron’s efforts to move forward. The father acknowledged that at only two years old, she may not yet understand the magnitude of losing both her mother and twin sister.
In a public tribute, Kameron thanked Kenya and Kennedi for choosing him to be their husband and father and promised to keep their memories alive while caring for Kensli.
The Margate Police Department continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the lightning strike. NBC South Florida reported that the two d34ths were the third and fourth lightning-related fatalities recorded in Florida during 2026 as of the incident.
What began as an ordinary Sunday family visit changed the Glasgow family’s life within seconds, leaving Kameron Glasgow and Kensli Glasgow mourning Kenya and Kennedi while relatives, friends and the Margate community rally around them.
